Welcome to our Earthwise Forest School blog! For those of you who may be new to the blog, each post highlights a few of our favorite moments from one week of classes. We usually have a theme for our week, through either a handwork project, craft, or skill building focus. And there is always lots of exploring, running, climbing, animal tracking, and birdwatching to do!

Last week we focused on acorn processing, so we spent one day collecting acorns, one day cracking them, and the third day grinding them by hand in a small grain grinder.

Experiencing one of our vocabulary words of the week..."fragrant!"

" Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, water-bugs, tadpoles, frogs and mud-turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, chestnuts, trees to climb, brooks to wade in, water-lilies, woodchucks, bats, bees, butterflies...sand, snakes, huckleberries, and hornets; and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education.
